Dreams are part of our all out fantasy land, they often contain significant information for us, putting light on what has happened in our lives , or what is happening and providing insights about our future, some dreams when crushed hard by some reality become even strong enough to start haunting you more then your worse nightmares, they tends to turn into more a part of your inner indefinite self called conscious, and every one’s know that he can not run from himself so hiding is completely out of question, even if you try to run, it hunts you down to the wall and look straight in to the eyes, one way or the other, one has to face consequences of a shattered dream.
- Gratitude
I still remember the 1st thing that enthused my soul and inspired my fortitude in such a manner that I believe it still probably comprise most part of the spirit I posses deep inside, it was an army convoy passing through the road while I was a mere eight year old standing by the road side watching those men which were staring straight ahead on some non existing point, I was mesmerized, it was a scene from memories of 92 Karachi operation and I being a kid wasn’t aware of the apparent “gratitude” present in the Karachi mass for the army as a reaction of the environment which was formed due to forth coming news blended with rumors and perceptions at the time, even my family members use to talk in much grief and pain about “what” army was doing with Urdu speaking community in ongoing operation, but it was absolutely irrelevant for boys like me, after getting streaked for 1st time later me and friends use to stand by the road each time we had opportunity and start saluting the passing trucks and jeeps of army on petrol, some soldiers sitting inside use to smile and node their heads in a kind manner, it was start of all “I want to be like them” kind of feeling for me, during all that period like kids normally do my aim was to be like them, years after year has passed away, many Autumns seen the face of spring and many springs fall in to autumns, but the kid who use to salute the passing soldiers appeared to remain inside forever, I can’t believe that I am saying that as it seems most over used phrase in situation like this but it’s ironically true that 1st impression is actually quite lasting impression, that feeling of the 1st impression some times leaves enduring impact on the a person’s ability to judge a reality and truth wisely about a certain accusation on object that he rate so high and made him feel the way I discussed above, well all the obsession for the men in khakis is going down to wire when one see them doing that they do not suppose to do.
It seems preface is getting better of the topic, but i thought it was necessary to drag the topic into the grove i want it to be in, the thing I was pointing, was the amount of respect and level of inspiration army generally has in most people’s mind that if some one tries to damage that image by showing a mirror of reality, most of us tends to deny it forcefully and stay in state of denial, in cases like mine perhaps to keep our aspirations alive for the things which acquire through our stimulated picture of the objects over the years, same fact is phenomenon when one talks about ongoing army operation in northern and tribal area and its forth coming fall outs in different kind of news , rumors and videos, all these facts are manifestly jolting army’s image, their respect in common bunch of people, after reviewing a video which showed group of army personals brutally “interrogating” with suspected Taliban or pro Taliban elements of SWAT provides a strong impression of the perception which is tottering around my mind that army is acting like they have conquered some enemy terrain and looking to provide strengthen to their uphold their occupation through sifting surviving people in the “war zone”, classic war scenario which ask them to apply the tactics and theories which army people would’ve learn back in their defense academies, but they have to keep this fact in mind that they are operating with in Pakistani territory and people they are dealing with could be lost souls but yet those souls belongs to the same blood and mud they themselves are proud of.
Video itself is just a lighter glance, a glimpse into concrete ground situation, before this video army people have reportedly executed pro Taliban elements openly, which indicates that there is an apparent will of strong anger among soldiers, most likely as the reaction of pre-operation killings of army officers in the area and the amount of hate each side posses towards other in the context of confrontation, soldiers and Taliban, both sides going down to the same level to compete and prove him self fittest or may be more barbaric then other to survive, despite of why Taliban are doing this, question is if Taliban are monsters then why army is acting like Taliban? military is an institution, it has to keep this fact in mind that they can not react in same manner like an adversary which is as suffering from some roasted ideas and theories mentally as TTP and their allies apparently are.
Army beating down the people is the 1st visible drop of an ongoing invincible rain in the area, amount of available media coverage in the area is absolutely nothing to be talk about as each news comes out thought the sieve of ISPR, some stories narrated by local pushtoon which are now living in Karachi after 1st being threatened by the Taliban and then later by army are more horrible and terrifying then this, lid has been tightened enough by the government to restrict the fall outs but can some one tell me what would going through the minds of the locals after receiving so much humiliation and wounds from the hands of their own army, they will hate Pakistan army more, they look for a chance to get even this is human nature which will further add to complication of the situation which is already causing blood shed , I have found while communicating with different people, that most people have doubts on the event and the nature of the video, and they are in state of mind that army is some sort of group of angles and people confronting those angels are devils, same thoughts bloomed extremist mind-set during lal masjid operation when a large group of people was supporting the killings of the students in the mosque and had the opinion that “they deserved it”, in the end that operation proved to be the root cause increasing of militancy in country, most of Fazlullah’s followers are believed to be the relatives of the victims of operation silence and are in deep torment of reprisal , similar approach is widely spread and accepted and even being chanted loudly in case of army’s behavior in SWAT, people living way off the scene in Karachi ,Lahores, Islamabads and other big cities showing great satisfaction on the Army’s “success” in reclaiming SWAT, during this supporting act of recite and rejoicing expression on each action took by army in the area, they tend to forget what exactly army operations have claimed during all these years, each operation by the khakis of Pakistan against the people of Pakistan had always resulted in disaster for the state and nation and yet we find supporters and cheerleaders of every kind in each era of army operation they tend to go all feral and passionate in their apparent palpable enigma about the situation of their liking, they enjoy the whole scenario like a thriling action movie, and cheer for their “heroes” which like in most movies are declared in start of the story, off course every thing is story and a movie for them until it is not happening in their cities and localities, they’ll safe sound and scene is always fit for loud cheer of zindabad and paindapad slogan.
Same accusations blended with hugely over whelmed propaganda from Indian side regarding atrocities (yes in certain cases willingly or under confusion atrocities did happen in east Pakistan and it has been widely accepted in the light of Hammud-ur-Rehaman commission which quote and confirm figure of 26,000 Bengalis people being killed) came across in 1971 (India officially claims that figure as absurdly as up to 3 million, in span of 9 months? well it’s not my topic but will write on the issue later, till then I would rather leave the judgment of this issue on the flight of imagination of my readers), And In reaction from our side was either utter silent or a confusingly trolling stand, even most of the so-called informed people (print media of the time) were not compliant and active enough to research and find reality of the matter and play the role they should’ve played in light of the coming news and reports from western on military operation, mainly because of our short coming of not accepting the loud roaring facts, instead like most of us today media were seemed to be more happy in preferring to listen and report to the “all good” alluring voices, result of defacing realism forced us to counter the illusive fictionist propaganda machinery of India and Indian blend of the matter from their media sources, more importantly in process of denying, we lost what was ours.
Lessons need to be learn from mistakes committed in Dhaka sooner than later, we have to pay attention to the voices from Baluchistan, SWAT, Waziristan and FATA, approach of army operations inside country and against the country men is not worth it, it’s just not part of the solution rather it more a part of the problem, let the dreams in eyes of the children of those places lighten their souls, instead burn them to transforms those dreams into flaming ashes of retribution and a never-ending quest of vengeance because its ironic one always has to face the consequences of shattered dreams
